The sort of heart of the world of Dark Souls is a magical fire. When it starts to go out, the world starts to end. People in positions of power can sacrifice themselves and rekindle the fire, but every time you save the world in that way, it's like copying over a VHS tape -- the quality degrades every time and things start to get weirder. By the time of Dark Souls 3 the fire has been rekindled l'd argue a few too many times and the world has become oddly small. It's truncated in such a way that the world's places of power, which used to be far apart, are converging on each other.
Universal laws are bending and breaking.
Dudes are bigger than they should be."
