"19th April 1945. During a mission to attack Aussig, Czechoslovakia, 5 B-17s were shot down by Me262s. These were the last heavy bombers lost by the Eighth Air Force to fighter attack during the Second World War. several crewmen were subsequently murdered after landing in an SS training area."

    "B-17 ā€˜Dead Manā€™s Handā€™ of the 447th BG/709th BS had completed 111 missions when it was shot down near Dresden on 19th April. Of the 8 crew (waist gunners were no longer being carried) all survived except the co-pilot, Harold Kramer. Navigator Raymond Fortier was hidden in a small village by German civilians until the end of the war and was never taken prisoner.
