"How do you solve a problem like Tennis Rankings"
content:
"So another Wimbledon comes to an end and Carlos Alcaraz completes a rare double of French Open and Wimbledon back to back, a feat not achieved by many. And it feels like he's No1 one mens player in the world right now but hes not, Jannik Sinner is, whp the Austtralian Open earlier this year aswell as Miami 1000(second biggest Tennis events) as well as Halle recently on grass.

A worthy one and two though some will say surely Alcaraz should be No1 but as defending Wimbledon champion he had to defend ranking points(2000) as well as his ttitle hense why hes still no2 and thats part of the rankings debate and where it rages. Some say players should be reward on for winning the title not just defending, Rafael Nadal amougst others ronce equested a 2 year ranking list, thus protecting the title wiining points and rewarding at the same ttime.

Personally Im against it as weve seen in the past players staying in rankings because of titles they have won in the past I mean why should one stay No1 now because they won say a Wimbledon or Roland Garros 12 months previously.

The other ranking system in operation is the 1 year list with the top 8 at the end of the calender year qualifying for the tour finals at the end of the season. Now in a way this makes sense to be the rankings system in one way because it shows us who has been the best through the season on the other hand it falls down for me because you dont see the real rankings really til the clay court season at least.

Generally the first month of the season not everyone plays untill the Australian Open(end of Jan/start of Feb) and the Masters 1000 doesn't start til March so in this ranking system would not be reflective and frankly ridiculous with every player reset to zero.

One other point I strongly disagree with regards to the rankings is team/international tennis tournaments that rewaed singles ranking points which I think is totally wrong, shouldnt happen and indeed scrapped.

For me the ranking systems is largely flawed, just look at say Katie Boulter who has only ever beaten 6 0r 7 top 32 players and in between Nottingham titles in summers 23 & 24, had one decent week, didnt win a single match in the clay season yet was ranked at 32 and seeded at Wimbledon, more like a 200+ rankning, clearly something's really wrong and she's far from the only one!

So how do we solve a problem like tennis rankings? Its a tough one and one that the debate will go on and on. Somehow for me its kind of a cross between the two systems mentioned above though I have no idea what that is unless there is another way im yet to see or hear. Nothing will change anythime soon so we stuck with the current situation unfortunately."
