"Douglas Adams's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - giant hand in space sticks out its thumb, nearby planet sticks out its tongue, does "nyah nyah" sign with hands where ears would be... The first in a four book "trilogy" (perfect Adams joke). The height of surreal humour in science fiction that isn't, but is. Either you GET Adams's humour or you don't, & if you don't, then you're not the kind of person I want to know. They made a movie of it, finally, & while no film could ever properly encapsulate Adams's books... it came awfully close to getting the humour right. It's a minor classic - and the fact that ALAN RICKMAN plays the voice of a depressed robot tells you all you ought to need to know about its worth. But if that's not enough... Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Bill Nighy, John Malkovich, Stephen Fry, Mos Def. See?
READ THE BOOK FIRST, though.
