"A subsidiary of Deere & Company regularly entertained Thai government officials at massage parlors and booked the expenses by using round numbers and providing vague descriptions, according to a document posted as part of its settlement today with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Wirtgen Group, a Windhagen, Germany-based road equipment manufacturer bought by Deere in 2017, won tenders with the Royal Thai Air Force and departments under the Ministry of Transport by employing multiple bribery schemes, including entertainment at massage parlors, hosting officials on sightseeing trips disguised as factory visits, and making cash payments, both directly and via an agent, the SEC said.
The conduct occurred during a period in which Deere had failed to complete the full integration of the subsidiary into its compliance program and overall control environment, according to the SEC document."
