  "I lied to my kids today in second period. I told them it was just a drill. I told them to get behind my couches (thank GOD I ditched desks and have bulky furniture!) & be quiet - the more quiet we are the faster the drill will end. I knew it was a lie. I knew this was what I always plan my furniture arrangement for every year. My kids were able to just hide & not panic for over 10 minutes, until we heard the banging on doors, walkie talkies, & yelling in the hallway. Then I had to come clean. My kids
  - & that's what they are. Not just students. They are MY KIDS- were so brave. They still trusted me & did exactly what l asked. I felt so helpless. 18 of my kids.
  All I could do was ask them to listen to me & to hide. It was the worst 20 minutes of my career. 18 kids.
  Depending on me. Anna somewhere in the building unable to get to me, or me to her. No idea what's going on. More yelling, banging on doors. Finally the door is opening & we're evacuated to the football field."
