## đź‘€ Visibility Control
[Update on 5/9](https://whtwnd.com/whtwnd.com/entries/%F0%9F%8C%9FWhiteWind%E6%9B%B4%E6%96%B0%2020240509%F0%9F%8C%9F) introduced the draft feature.
With this draft feature enabled, articles were prevented from being published on the WhiteWind homepage.
However, if someone accessed the author’s page or the article’s URL directly, the article could still be viewed by others.

In this update, three levels of visibility have been supported: “Public on the web,” “Anyone with the link,” and “Author only”!

||Public on the web|Anyone with the link|Author only|
|--|--|--|--|
|Listed on WhiteWind homepage|âś“|||
|Allow search engine crawlers to index|âś“|||
|Visible on the author’s article list page|✓|(Author only)|(Author only)|
|Viewable by others besides the author|âś“|âś“||

### Public on the web
Recommended mode for sharing finished articles, such as
- Sharing insights
- Event announcements

Articles will be published on the WhiteWind homepage and the author's article list page.
Search engines will also recognize this page, making it appear in searches on Google and other search engines.
This is the recommended mode for general use.

### Anyone with the link
Recommended for situations where you want to limit who can view the article, such as
- Personal records or notes
- Reducing access from a large, unspecified audience

In this visibility mode, articles will not be published on the WhiteWind homepage, and only those with the shared URL will be able to view the article.
Additionally, when the author opens their article list page, a badge labeled "Anyone with the link" will be displayed on the blog card.

### Author only
Recommended for saving unfinished drafts.
Articles will not be published on the WhiteWind homepage, and even those with the URL will not be able to view the article. Only the logged-in author can view the article.
Additionally, when the author opens their article list page, a badge labeled "Author only" will be displayed on the blog card.
![](https://blewit.us-west.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:fzkpgpjj7nki7r5rhtmgzrez&cid=bafkreifyawjfz2fzwrlg3z4i27btndevnkonwnzjburmy5dxx7urqxvpoa)
When the article page is opened, a badge labeled "Author only" will be displayed under the title.
![](https://blewit.us-west.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.sync.getBlob?did=did:plc:fzkpgpjj7nki7r5rhtmgzrez&cid=bafkreifqfwnbtgc6uzg6koe3zofkmnlit44pklmhqr4zkrtxqwqs4psavu)

## 🚨 It is not possible to completely hide articles
Due to the nature of atproto, selecting "Anyone with the link" or "Author only" will not completely hide articles.
The servers (PDS) where WhiteWind and Bluesky articles are stored are beyond WhiteWind's control, and all data on PDS is publicly available.
For example, accessing https://blewit.us-west.host.bsky.network/xrpc/com.atproto.repo.getRecord?repo=whtwnd.com&collection=com.whtwnd.blog.entry&rkey=3kt3erabxrz2j allows retrieving this article, ignoring visibility settings.
Be cautious not to include sensitive or confidential information.

## A blog of sorts
That's all for the update.
Thank you for reading until the end!

I've been using microblogging services like X (Twitter) for over 10 years, but recently, for the first time, I listened to a broadcast on [Bluecast](https://www.bluecast.app/).
I was wondering if it would suit me, and the broadcasts are interesting!
It's quite a good fit for me to play it in the background like a radio while working, and then pay attention when there's a topic I'm interested in.
It seems like a high hurdle to become a broadcaster myself, but I thought I'd keep listening occasionally.
