"They were placed in a central compartment in the Aviary, and an extra layer of wire netting was placed over it to make it doubly secure. Shortly after being placed in this compartment they were noticed burrowing and the Inspector of Works immediately floored the compartment with rough boards. Unfortunately the enclosure at one side was occupied by Keas and was not floored, and during the night the Keas worked and broke loose one side of the wire netting and two Raccoons got into the Keas compartment and escaped by burrowing. Immediately this became known a thorough search was made, but without success. A reward of five pounds each has been offered for their capture, dead or alive."
